EDITORIAL FOREWORD The fifth number of volume two is the third issue in English of the VNU Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities since it was introduced in October, 2015. It consists of six research articles, two discussions, a book review and information related to academic activities and conferences held recently by VNU-USSH.

Prevention strategies and mental health in Vietnam (Tr 508-518) Edward Cohen Abstract: This paper addresses the current state of mental health services in Vietnam and provides recommendations for improving the care of people with mental illness. Vietnam’s mental health problems are as prevalent as anywhere else in the world.

Moderators of the effectiveness of multisystemic therapy outcome for adolescents with severe conduct problems (Tr 519-536) Tran Thanh Nam, Bahr Weiss Abstract: Adolescent conduct problems exact serious social as well as personal costs. One of the most effective programs for treatment of serious conduct problems in adolescents is multisystemic therapy (MST).  

Introduction of KSAP technique survey into community-based tourism study: Case study in Na Hang, Tuyen Quang province (Tr 537-551) Tran Duc Thanh Abstract: This paper introduces a new survey method for identifying the capacity of local people in community-based tourism development, that is called KSAP- Knowledge, Skills, Attitudes and Practices.

On the earliest version of the Miaoshan-Guanyin story in Vietnam: An adaptation of a Chinese narrative in the Nom script (Tr 552-563) Rostislav Berezkin, Nguyen To Lan   Abstract: This article discusses the origins and special features of the earliest extant Vietnamese version of the Princess Miaoshan story-the National Version of the Original Deeds of Guanyin , which forms a hagiography of Bodhisattva Guanyin ; compiled by the monk Thích Chân Nguyên ca.

Identifying factors affecting the early retirement decisions of employees: Meaning for Vietnam to reduce the potential labour shortages due to the population ageing (587-597) Nguyen Thi Thu Ha  Abstract: As the proportion of the elderly population (those aged 60 and over) keeps increasing quickly in most countries in the world, issues related to older people’s employment behavior have drawn a great deal of public attention.

Understanding theory in research of social sciences: A critical review with case studies in communication studies (Tr 598-611) Phan Quang Anh Abstract: This paper shows an endeavor in looking at theory from ontological, epistemological and axiological perspectives to provide an in-depth analysis of the position of theory in the process of conducting research in Social Sciences.
