Abstract: There have been many researches, in which Vietnamese and foreign scholars try to explain in different ways the causes of the victory of Vietnamese people in the Anti-American Resistance War (1954-1975) – “the Vietnam War” as it have been named by the American. In this paper, the author approaches the war from a new angle: He carries on a in-depth analysis and points out the systematical mistakes in the war strategic guidelines which the USA’s war leadership tried to apply in Vietnam. These were the root causes for the defeats of the USA while intervening and then conducting the “limited war” against Vietnam. Finally, the USA failed in the fight against the people’s war of the Vietnamese people. Approaching the war history from its strategic guideline is therefore a new approach that must be useful and valuable in studying on war in general, as well as in studying on the Vietnamese people’s war in particular.
