Tóm tắt: Lịch sử hình thành và phát triển của Liên minh châu Âu trải qua chặng đường dài, gắn liền với lịch sử phát triển của châu Âu và thế giới trong nửa sau thế kỉ XX. Trải qua 65 năm tồn tại và phát triển của EU, sự kiện nước Anh rời bỏ EU do kết quả của cuộc trưng cầu ý dân ở Anh ngày 23/6/2016 là một đòn giáng mạnh vào tiến trình nhất thể hóa châu Âu và sự phát triển của tổ chức khu vực vốn được đánh giá là thành công nhất trên thế giới này. Vì sao đa số người dân nước Anh lựa chọn rời khỏi EU, có thể giải thích như thế nào về cơn địa chấn Brexit chưa từng có trong lịch sử phát triển của EU? Bài viết tập trung luận giải câu hỏi nêu trên bằng việc phân tích những dấu mốc cơ bản trong lịch sử hình thành EU và sự tham gia của nước Anh trong tiến trình này thông qua những vấn đề sau đây: (I) Nước Anh đứng ở đâu trong quá trình thành lập EEC (1951-1973); (II) Cuộc hôn nhân đầy sóng gió: Anh-EEC/EU (1973-2016); (III) Cơn địa chấn Brexit 23/6/2016.
